If you own a Spice MI-300, then you may want to delve into the pool of custom ROMs, and ROM modding. As a first step, an illustrious user who goes by the handle albert007 has posted the necessary steps on his personal blog, here.

Now, be warned! The world of custom ROM installations could have seriously dire consequences - you could end up bricking your phone and rendering it totally useless. Also, the warranty on the device could become null and void.

Although, if you've updated your phone to Android 2.1, then you'd have figured out that Spice has limited the processor speed to 480 Mhz, which kinda makes certain operations on the phone a tad too sliggish. Installing this custom ROM, as outlined by Albert, could help.

We should note, however, that although Albert mentions "rooting" the phone, the process outlined by him does NOT root the phone. It installs a custom ROM image which already has root access for you provided. We're still waiting around for someone (albert007 himself, perhaps?) to actually root the phone with the stock 2.1 Android OS on it. Here's hoping...

You can root the stock 2.1 ROM using Universal Androot. You can download it at the link below.

Hey Jack,

Thanks for stopping by and for your comment.

We've tried Universal Androot, we've tried the One Click tool... Nothing worked. :)
