Samsung Galaxy S II      Google Nexus S

Tired of our updates this week of the Android world yet and can’t bear to hear any more about Android? Don’t worry. We’ll wait till you get a coffee and can relax. Ready? Cool. There is no steady launch date, but Samsung Mobile India has confirmed on Twitter that the Galaxy S II phone would be launching in India next month. In case you don’t know already, Samsung is updating it’s wildly popular Galaxy S phone with a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, a dual-core 1 Ghz processor, full 1080p video recording and playback, an LED flash (thank heavens!) to accompany that 8 MP camera at the back, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and USB 2.0 On-the-Go (USB OTG makes any device a USB host; you can plug in other USB mass storage devices such as USB pen drives, other phones, etc. to this phone. We’ve tried it out on the Nokia N8; it’s jaw-dropping).

In related news, Google would also be launching it’s Nexus S in India sometime in the first week of April, if the popular online retailer, is to be believed. Nexus S is manufactured by Samsung, and is based on the design and specifications of the first-generation Galaxy S. It has the stock Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 4 inch Contour (curved) display, 1 Ghz Cortex A8 processor, a 5 MP rear camera with LED flash, 16 GB built-in storage, no microSD slot, and something that may not be of much use in India – NFC (Near Field Communications). With the Samsung Galaxy S II just around the corner with much better specs, we really don’t see much value in purchasing the Nexus S in India now – unless you are a fan of the Android stock UI (which can always be installed on the Galaxy S II using a custom ROM of sorts and voiding your warranty), or you’re desperate for some NFC action (atleast, NFC capabilities in your phone).
