Solar Panels installed in a Chennai resident's home

The Hindu reports that a Chennai city resident, D. Suresh, utilises a home power generation unit powered by a 1kW solar panel, made of five smaller-capacity panel. The total cost of setting up this solar power generation system cost Suresh a steep Rs. 2.5 lakhs, after which there is a subsidy of Rs. 80,000 provided by the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA). Though expensive, this system helps him when there are frequent power cuts, and also saves certain cost as he draws power from the city grid only when he runs out of power available from the solar power generation system. The battery storage capacity of the system is 1000 Ah, which is used to deliver power during the nights. We would definitely like more people to use Solar energy and reduce the strain on the national power grid.
