MS Store India - Hacked screenshot

The Microsoft Online Store for India, www.microsoftstore.co.in, has been hacked last night by the Chinese hacker group, Evil Shadow. The point of concern here is that the entire list of usernames and passwords were saved as a plain text file, which means that if any of you out there had saved accounts with Microsoft India’s online store, then your account is compromised. We’ve already detailed some of the perils of accounts being hacked in an Editorial, but if you used the same username/password combination for the Microsoft Online Store account and your personal email account – we’d suggest that you change the password for your email account right away.

The website is currently taken down for “maintenance”, as claimed by Microsoft. It also appears that the online store for India was not maintained by Microsoft themselves; it was outsourced to a third-party. Either way, security was lacking here and it goes to show that you just can’t really trust any site out there.
